THE STATEMENT reveals quality ratings for 1000 quoted banks worldwide

Source: LAFFERTY 1000

Western banks "outclassed" by banks in emerging markets

LONDON, UK, July 1, 2020 / — Banks from Western Europe, North America and Australia are now clearly outclassed by banks in emerging markets in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America. This is the striking conclusion of pioneering research for THE STATEMENT magazine across 1000 quoted banks in over 100 countries. The best-rated banks are found in South Africa, Saudi Arabia. Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Turkey, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and Mexico.

The research is generated from the LAFFERTY 1000 global banking database, which scores the one thousand banks for quality across 21 metrics and rates them from 1-star for the weakest to 5-stars for the best. Other findings include:

• Only 5 of the 1000 banks receive 5-star ratings and all are based in emerging markets

• With three exceptions, the mainly universal banking giants of Europe, North America, Japan and China that are designated as “globally significant” by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) are rated from poor to average at best.

• Italy’s UniCredit comes bottom of the group, with a 1-star rating.

These findings contradict the view, long held in the financial industry that the UK and the US are the leading countries for industry achievement.

THE STATEMENT is a new Lafferty Group digital banking magazine. It is being established at the height of the economic, financial and human crises caused by the global coronavirus pandemic in order to help progressive banks and bankers find a new way ahead for the industry.

The magazine takes as its starting point the current state of 1000 of the world’s largest quoted banks and rates each of them for their quality and sustainability using 21 metrics – from financial performance to how they treat a range of stakeholders including staff, customers, the unbanked, regulators, the environment – and not least shareholders.

The bank quality rating system on which the database is anchored uses a heuristic methodology to analyse the signals that banks are sending out in their annual reports – intentionally or otherwise – and combines them to score the overall bank. It uses the annual report because of its unique status as the primary vehicle for management of a bank to communicate and account to shareholders and other stakeholders.

Michael Lafferty, Chief Executive of Lafferty Group said:

“Banks from emerging markets are now setting the pace in world banking. They are more focused and unfettered by the mistakes that have done so much damage to Western banks. These mistakes include a misguided love affair with universal banking and the destructive ideology of shareholder value”.

Alexander Erickson, LAFFERTY 1000 Research & Database Manager added:

“Emerging market banks are becoming key and prominent players in banking, particularly in areas such as financial inclusion, diversity and climate risk policy. This has opened up new doors and altered the course of research and data analytics.”

Mission Accomplished. 8 Digital tablets delivered to the Hospital Costa del Sol.

JUCRA Digital

Keeping up the community spirit!

This week saw the 8th and final Samsung Tablet delivered to the Hospital Costa Del Sol!

This week, JUCRA Digital saw the 8th and final Samsung Tablet delivered to the Hospital Costa Del Sol! It has taken almost 2 months, what with stock issues and delays due to COVID-19, however, persistence was maintained with 8 Samsung Tablets, 3 Tablet Stands and 8 Tablet Protective Cases delivered to a grateful staff at the hospital.

On the 1st April Justin Parks, Chairman of the Costa Gaels Gaelic Football Club, and partner in JUCRA Digital, started a fundraiser on Facebook and in less than 2 days a whopping €2132 was raised! Thanks to the generosity of Club Members, local businesses and the general public, this money was used to directly benefit the patients, and doctors and nurses in the Hospital Costa Del Sol, in Marbella, during the height of the Corona Virus pandemic.

"A big thank you to the staff at JUCRA Digital and their efforts of getting the equipment ordered and delivered to where they needed to be. Without the team's involvement, coordination and determination during the lockdown, the tablets most likely would have been delayed" said Justin Parks.

The tablets provided were a fundamental tool for the patients to be able to keep in touch with loved ones when the quarantine was at its height and no visitors were allowed. They were also used to watch movies, play games and generally pass the time, in addition, another benefit is that the doctors are able to use the tablets to show scans and/or x-rays, analyses and reports to the patients at their bedside.

Besides the monetary generosity demonstrated during the COVID crisis, we also had numerous people donating their own tablets, other electronic equipment, hospital gowns, and even boxes of hand-sewn face masks. The Hospital Costa Del Sol has created a dedicated webpage to give thanks to all the donors:

The last 3 months have been very long, but seeing these acts of kindness and the solidarity of the local community restores faith and helps us all to look forward to the future and a healthy “new normal”!

Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki Explains How Starting Basketball Early is Good for Kids

Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki

Ibrahim Hakki

LARGO, FL, USA, June 30, 2020 / — Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki, philanthropist and State Finalist in basketball, encourages parents to have their children start basketball young. “Helping your child to learn basic basketball skills isn’t just about encouraging exercise – it’s about laying a foundation that will help them stay active later in life.”

Basketball Aids in Physical Development says Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, children should be getting at least one hour of intense physical activity per day. “Basketball is a structured way to incorporate intense daily exercise into their everyday routines,” encourages Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki.
In addition to running up and down the court – excellent aerobic exercise – basketball also improves gross motor skills by engaging all of the major muscle groups. “Dribbling, throwing, catching, pivoting – it all helps to improve hand-eye coordination, balance, and dexterity,” explains Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki. And it’s true that in studies, young children who played basketball regularly showed improved endurance and flexibility as well as hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki Explains How Basketball Improves Psychological Development

“Getting involved with basketball early on can help kids develop healthy psychological connections and habits,” says Ibrahim Hakki. “Playing as part of a team can help your child understand the importance of teamwork, get them involved with their peer group, improve their problem-solving skills, and help them make lifelong friendships.”

Basketball also improves communication skills and helps them learn how to solve basic logic problems. Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki explains, “You have to think about where to throw the ball next, figure out what moves the other team might make, and communicate all of that to your teammates quickly. You learn a lot of give and take, a lot of trust with basketball.”

“Athletes learn early on how important teamwork is,” says Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki. “I can’t tell you how much that helped in my adult life – the working world, and as a part of missionary teams.” Basketball requires that you pay attention to other people – your teammates as well as your opposition – and respond to their actions. “You learn to act for the good of the team, to move as a unit. After all, you can’t win a basketball game by yourself! It takes the whole team” enthuses Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki.

It’s also an excellent lesson in the difficulties and benefits of healthy competition. “Children who play team sports are much better at accepting failure or defeat as a normal part of life,” says Ibrahim Jutiar Hakki. “It’s so much easier to pick yourself back up and try again when you’ve been doing that on the basketball court for years.”

Murray Challenges Carney: Where Do You Stand On The Caesar Rodney Statue

Murray Condemns Taking Down Rodney Statue and Attacks on Statues Of Founders

Where does John Carney stand? Does he agree that statues like that of Caesar Rodney, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson need to be protected or does he agree with the senseless mob?”

— Julianne Murray

SEAFORD, DE, UNITED STATES, June 30, 2020 / — Georgetown attorney and Republican gubernatorial candidate, Julianne Murray challenged Governor John Carney on if he supported taking down the statue of American founding father and Delaware statesman, Caesar Rodney. Wilmington, Delaware took down the statue of Rodney following demands from protesters because Rodney owned slaves. Rodney, a member of the Second Continental Congress broke the tie allowing the Declaration of Independence to be adopted. He also served as President (the equivalent of governor) of Delaware during the American Revolution and is considered one of the founding fathers of Delaware. Murray noted that Carney has stayed silent on the issue of the Rodney statue. She said it is time for him to take a stand does he support protecting statues of the founding fathers or does he believe they should come down even after presumptive Democratic nominee and Delaware resident Joe Biden said he was against removing statues of the founding fathers. Murray stated she was adamantly opposed to removing the statue of Rodney and all the founders.

“Where does John Carney stand,” asked Julianne Murray, “Does he agree that statues like that of Caesar Rodney, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson need to be protected or does he agree with the senseless mob that has been destroying statues daily? It is time for the Governor to take a stand.

“No nation is perfect, but the nation that Caesar Rodney and the founders created is in the words of Abraham Lincoln, the world’s last best hope,” continued Murray. “They created a nation that is the envy of the world and their memory should be honored. It is sad that John Carney can’t make up his mind if he believes this or not. Guess he is waiting for his advisers and donors to tell him what to say.”

Compliance Tips With Hospital Spine Surgery Scheduling, during Covid-19 From Dr. Jeffrey D. Gross, MD.

The coronavirus pandemic certainly disrupted hospital spinal surgeries from moving forward as normal for many good reasons. Safety compliance is now the focus.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA, UNITED STATES, June 30, 2020 / — Adapting practice policies to re-instituting inpatient hospital spine surgeries is essential to the avoidance of cancellations and to improve scheduling expectations. As patients and their surgeons weigh their declining fears of entering a hospital in the Covid pandemic epidemiological tail with their clinical need for surgery, the successful and agile surgeon’s office must adapt to ongoing additional steps required for both their office and their patients requiring adherence. With these challenges as the backdrop, smart and local minds are providing much needed guidance.

Dr. Jeffrey D. Gross, spine fellowship trained neurological surgeon, through the Newport Beach (CA) Covid Safe Commerce Task Force has developed hospital compliance tips to avoid surgery cancellation.

First, newly created hospital policies require Covid-19 testing, followed by a period of patient self-quarantine. This additional testing/behavioral step can be performed at the usual pre-op lab testing and is best offered by the hospital where the surgery is to take place. The patient must be advised as to self-quarantine restrictions as to avoid a cancellation on the date of surgery when questioned in a pre-operative holding area as required by most EMR checklists recently added.

Second, it is best to provide as part of the informed consent, the possibility of cancellations/postponements of a scheduled surgery in order to breed understanding and reduce disappointment on account of Covid-19 related changes. Besides positive viral tests (or absence of testing), or poor-self-quarantining, hospital census (and/or ICU/respirator utilization), hospital supply limitations, and/or funding/staffing issues may also force a surgical schedule change at the last minute. Even in the absence of a second epidemiological spike, these challenging factors may still exist. Hospital income has declined, and such will be reflected in staffing and supplies as the health care system tries to recover in taking on desired elective surgical cases. It is important to review and comply with the individual hospital facilities’ policies. Most physicians have received a larger number of communications from hospitals in the last few months than ever before, and those related to re-instituting surgical scheduling cannot be ignored.

Lastly, it is also important to review new visitation limitations with both patients and their families. Many facilities are not allowing visitors. Others have mask and other PPE requirements. Expectations are best managed ahead of time.

Dr. Jeffrey Gross performs inpatient spinal surgeries for patients in need at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach California, Chapman Global Medical Center in Orange, California, and Henderson Hospital in Henderson, NV. Dr. Gross is the chairperson medical volunteer for the Newport Beach, California Covid Safe Commerce Task Force. His team is spearheading the investigation and implementation of safe practices in the re-opening of medical commerce to best serve patients in his community.
